STI, the largest network of information technology-based colleges in the Philippines, in partnership with Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank), the Philippines’ leading digital bank, recently concluded the first run of its Blockchain Xcellerator Program that aims to produce blockchain experts.
Amid the challenges prompted by the current pandemic, 13 students of STI from its various campuses finished the Xcellerator Program that was launched last February and ended last 21 July 2020.
Of the 13 students, 7 were certified as blockchain developers.
The top 2 teams from the class also developed two blockchain applications, namely Musika – a music application platform that runs on Ethereum that promotes original songs of artists and utilizes cryptocurrency as a mode of payment for the songs; and Trappic — a modernized traffic violation ticketing application leveraging on blockchain and which seeks to ensure that traffic violations and payments will not be untampered with.
STI’s blockchain mentors came from UnionBank’s first Blockchain Xcellerator Experts Program that was launched on 05 Oct. 2019.
Nine (09) STI teachers were certified to become expert blockchain educators who will mentor future talents.
The teachers – who had background in IT, computer science, engineering and other IT-related certifications – underwent an eight-week intensive course about blockchain technology which is seen to revolutionize business processes across many industries in the near future.
