UnionBank of the Philippines (UnionBank), renowned for its pioneering role in digital banking, is set to welcome a new leader at the helm. Ana Maria Aboitiz Delgado will assume the position of President and CEO on 01 January 2025, taking over from Edwin R. Bautista, who has served the bank with distinction for 27 years.

UnionBank has consistently been a frontrunner in technological innovations, committed to empowering its customers and setting the standard for digital banking in the Philippines. The bank aims to continue its trajectory as a Great Retail Bank, meeting the evolving needs of Filipinos nationwide. This commitment to excellence has garnered UnionBank numerous accolades, including “Marketing Company of the Year” at the 42nd Agora Awards and “Asia Trailblazer Institution of the Year” from Retail Banker International. Other notable recognitions include “Best Retail Bank in Southeast Asia 2023” from Capital Finance International and six consecutive “Digital Bank of the Year” awards from The Asset Triple A (2018-2023).

Delgado, who joined UnionBank as a management trainee in 2003, has been instrumental in driving the bank’s business development, particularly in SME Banking and Retail Consumer Finance. Her leadership has been pivotal in the successful migration of Citibank Philippines’ retail business to UnionBank platforms, a major milestone completed on 25 March 2024. In her expanded role as SEVP since July 1, 2023, she has overseen Institutional Banking, Customer Experience, and Digital Channels, and served as a Director of the UnionBank Board and Chairman of CitySavings Bank.

Delgado is widely credited for spearheading UnionBank’s digital retail banking innovations, including the digital bank branch model and UnionBank Online. Her expertise and vision are expected to further the bank’s digital transformation, building on the strong foundation laid by Bautista.

“We are looking forward to taking UnionBank to greater heights with Ana at the helm. Her experience and expertise will allow her to lead the Bank’s continued digital transformation which was started by Edwin and has put UnionBank on an accelerated road towards its aspiration to be a great retail bank,” according to Erramon Aboitiz, Chairman of the UnionBank Board of Directors.

Bautista, whose tenure saw UnionBank emerge as a leading digitalized bank in the country, proudly declares, “Mission accomplished!” He will remain part of UnionBank’s Board of Directors to ensure a seamless leadership transition.

Under Delgado’s leadership, UnionBank is poised to continue its growth trajectory and further solidify its position as a leading retail bank, with a focus on enhancing customer experience and leveraging digital innovations. With over 15 million customers, UnionBank’s future looks promising as it aims to support the Philippines’ bid to become a G20 country by 2050, powering the future of banking while co-creating innovations for a better world.
