Toki isn’t your average online marketplace. Founded by passionate collectors themselves, Toki is the Philippines’ first social commerce platform dedicated entirely to collectibles. Launched in November 2023, the platform aims to revolutionize the way Filipinos buy, sell, and connect over their favorite collectibles.

I had the chance to speak with Frederic Levy, CEO of Toki, on the sidelines of the recently held TOYCON 2024 in Pasay City. According to Levy, Toki identified a major pain point for collectors: the insecurity and inefficiency of traditional buying and selling methods. Fragmented platforms like Facebook and Instagram often lack secure transactions and verification processes, leaving buyers vulnerable to scams and receiving potentially damaged items. Toki tackles these issues head-on by:

  • Vetting Sellers: Not just anyone can sell on Toki. The platform carefully selects sellers, ensuring they are reputable and have established supply chains.
  • Escrow Payments: Buyer payments are held securely in escrow until the item is verified by Toki and delivered safely.
  • In-House Verification: Every item undergoes a meticulous verification process before reaching the buyer.

Toki understands that collecting is more than just buying and selling. It’s about the thrill of the hunt, the joy of discovery, and the camaraderie of a shared passion. That’s why Toki offers features that cater to the social and interactive aspects of collecting:

  • Live Stream Auctions: Toki’s innovative live stream auctions create a fun and engaging experience for buyers, fostering a sense of community and excitement.
  • Exclusive & Limited-Edition Collectibles: Toki partners with brands and artists to offer exclusive and limited-edition collectibles, catering to the needs of avid collectors.
  • Monthly Events: Toki hosts regular events, both online and offline, where collectors can connect, share their passions, and participate in exciting activities.

Toki: A Filipino Success Story

In just a few months, Toki has become the leading platform for collectibles in the Philippines. With over 100,000 verified collectibles and partnerships with top resellers across various categories, Toki is a one-stop shop for Filipino collectors. Their success is a testament to the growing demand for a secure and enjoyable collecting experience.

Toki recently delighted hobbyists and enthusiasts at TOYCON, the biggest annual gathering for collectors held from 14 to 16 June 2024 at the SMX Mall of Asia. As the pioneer of livestream auctions in the Philippines, Toki hosted several directly from its booth, engaging both attendees and those browsing the platform remotely.

With over 100,000 certified authentic collectibles on its platform, the platform showcased an exciting array of items at the event, including exclusive Art Toys, Funko Pops, rare Lego sets, and sneakers. The Toki booth also offered exclusive branded merchandise and fun games, ensuring everyone went home with something.

A daily giveaway of PHP10,000 worth of vouchers further fueled the excitement, allowing attendees to experience Toki’s seamless buying journey. Actor, collector, and top Toki buyer Kokoy de Santos even visited the booth, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

“As collectors ourselves, the Toki team knew just how important the TOYCON event is. It has been an incredible three days, filled with connections, engagement, and meeting so many amazing members of the Toki community. We were thrilled to see how Toki has rapidly become a central hub for collectors. We look forward to amplifying the energy at TOYCON next year and in the years to come,” Levy said.

The Toki community keeps growing! In partnership with Secret Fresh, Toki is bringing back the weekend gathering for collectors — “Beyond the Block” — happening on 30 June 2024 at the Ronac Lifestyle Center in Makati. Free admission allows passionate and aspiring collectors to join in for a fun day of food, games, and celebrating all things collectible.

Toki’s dedication to building a thriving community is evident in their future plans. They are constantly exploring ways to enhance the social aspects of the platform, fostering stronger connections among collectors.
