I am both happy and proud to be part of the first ever Smart DevNet HTML5 Dev Day Davao City last 21 Jul 2012 at the University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP). I was invited to represent Mozilla and give a talk on HTML5 Cross Platform Development and of course, the B2G (Boot to Gecko / Firefox Mobile OS) project. Speakers lineup include Ronald Ramos and Maui Millan of Smart, Eric Su of PicLyf, and Dan Delima of Google. A hackathon, where I was one of the judges, was staged just after lunch.
Here is my interview conducted by Smart’s Jim Ayson at the event site:
The event was also covered by GMA News Online:
… Mozilla’s Bob Reyes created quite a stir at the event by presenting what he touted as the first phone in the Philippines to run on Mozilla Firefox OS, a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The Mozilla Firefox OS was built on its B2G (Boot to Gecko) project, which aims to be create an open alternative to existing mobile operating systems and address the limitations of mobile web development. The end goal is to be able to surf the Internet on a mobile phone with the ease and speed as one would expect from a laptop.
Some pictures I took during the event:
Hope to be back at Davao City very soon to establish the local Mozilla Community there. I will try to bring the entire PHL ReMo team when it happens.
