Tagaytay’s iconic Taal Vista Hotel commemorates its 85th anniversary with a celebration of its enduring impact on the community, employees, and local businesses. Renowned for its scenic views of Taal Volcano, the hotel has cemented its legacy as more than just a premier destination — it’s a beacon of empowerment, sustainability, and community development.
Empowering Employees: Stories of Transformation
As part of the SM Group, Taal Vista Hotel aligns its initiatives with the group’s focus on inclusive growth and corporate social responsibility. Employees like Joel Tubig, a pool attendant, embody this mission. Once a tricycle driver and construction worker, Joel’s life changed when he received a technical-vocational scholarship from the SM Foundation. Now, he has achieved financial stability, enabling him to send his children to private schools and invest in property.
“Taal Vista is not just a hotel, it’s part of my family’s journey. Thanks to the scholarship and a steady job, I’ve been able to send my children to private school, buy a car, and even invest in property. Without the opportunities here, I honestly don’t know where I’d be today,” according to Joel.
Similarly, Jeric Tenorio, who began as an on-the-job trainee 13 years ago, climbed the ranks with the hotel’s support. As a room attendant today, Jeric credits the nurturing culture and training opportunities for his professional and personal growth.
“Taal Vista invests in its people. I was able to pursue my degree while working, and the training I received here gave me the confidence to grow both professionally and personally,” said Jeric.
With 79% of its workforce drawn from Tagaytay and surrounding areas, Taal Vista not only creates jobs but also uplifts local communities by fostering stability and growth.
Supporting Local Enterprises & Promoting Sustainability
Taal Vista also champions local businesses through its Green Procurement Program, which engages 255 suppliers, ensuring that economic benefits ripple through the community. Projects like Tela Tales, a collaboration with designer Zarah Juan, transform old hotel linens into reusable bags, providing sustainable income for local artisans.
The hotel’s commitment extends to farm-to-table initiatives, sourcing organic produce from its own garden, and emphasizing eco-conscious practices.
“Taal Vista’s commitment to sustainability and local businesses helps boost the local economy and promote a more environmentally-conscious way of doing business. By supporting local suppliers, we’re not just building relationships — we’re building a stronger, more resilient community,” said Ramon Makilan, General Manager of Taal Vista.
As Taal Vista Hotel reflects on 85 years of excellence, its commitment to the community remains steadfast. From career opportunities and scholarships to promoting sustainability and supporting local enterprises, the hotel’s impact resonates far beyond its walls. This milestone reinforces Taal Vista Hotel’s position as a leader in community-centered business, proving that success is best measured by the lives it touches.
