To foster inclusivity and accessibility in the realm of eCommerce, Shopee has joined forces with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to bring Halal food sellers onto its expansive platform. The collaborative effort seeks to bolster Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by providing a digital avenue for Halal products, catering to both sellers and consumers. This strategic partnership aligns with Shopee’s overarching mission to empower niche businesses, allowing them to expand their digital footprint and reach a broader market.

The joint venture places a strong emphasis on educating potential sellers about the onboarding process on Shopee’s platform, ensuring a seamless and user-friendly experience for newcomers to the world of eCommerce. The comprehensive onboarding sessions delve into crucial topics such as product listing guidelines, UI navigation, and valuable business insights. This initiative equips sellers with the essential tools needed to not only survive but thrive in the dynamic digital market.

“At Shopee, we are dedicated to fostering inclusivity for our sellers and consumers. Our collaboration with the DTI to onboard Halal food sellers aligns with our commitment to supporting MSMEs and providing diverse options for our users. This is another step towards empowering businesses of all kinds and sizes to thrive in the digital economy,” according to Vincent Lee, Head of Shopee Philippines.

Halal food products adhere to Islamic dietary laws that dictate specific production processes. The convenience of having easy access to these items is paramount for individuals with religious obligations and those who prioritize ethically sourced food.

Scheduled for January 2024, seller training sessions will encompass a wide array of topics, ranging from Shopee fundamentals to commercial and operational improvements. Prospective sellers are encouraged to create a Shopee seller account today and explore Shopee’s Seller Education Hub, which offers regular free training and webinars to enhance their skills and knowledge. This collaborative effort marks a significant step toward making eCommerce more inclusive and diverse, aligning with the evolving needs of today’s market.

“The partnership with Shopee is a step towards enhancing the visibility of Halal products online. This collaboration will further strengthen the DTI’s commitment to promoting economic growth and ensuring that MSMEs offering Halal-certified products have the tools and resources to adapt to a dynamic market,” said Marievic M. Bonoan of DTI.
