The RP Blu Girls encountered a challenging day on the field as they suffered a decisive loss against Japan in the XVII WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup. The match took place at the Campo Comunale da Softball on Sunday, 23 July 2023 (Manila Time).
Japan, currently holding the impressive Number 2 rank by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), displayed their dominance throughout the game, outscoring the girls with a stunning 13-0 blow. Despite the setback, the RP Blu Girls showcased unwavering determination and spirit, keeping their heads high as they look ahead to their upcoming matches against Venezuela, Italy, and New Zealand.
“I believe that this setback will only fuel the Blu Girls’ determination and egg them to fight harder. Now that we’re done with our matches with two of the games’ strongest teams, Japan and Canada and with some tactical adjustments, the RP Blu Girls are eager to go back out and prove that they’ve got what it takes to go head-on with the world’s best teams,” according to Jean Henri Lhuillier, Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) President.
Ranked 26th in the tournament, the Philippine team still has three more crucial matches ahead, with Venezuela as their upcoming opponent on the third day of the group stage.
