Power Mac Center (PMC) recently marked its 29th year with a spectacular showcase of the Filipino music scene. The celebration took the form of a series of live audio-digital crossover experiences, shining a spotlight on Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icons and emerging artists.
In an era dominated by streaming services that offer music from all corners of the globe, PMC aimed to elevate the Filipino music culture and provide local artists with a unique platform for their talents. The event, known as “Sync Sessions,” presented a groundbreaking concept that saw musicians using Apple devices as instruments, bringing together technology and live music in innovative ways.
“Sync Sessions is an original concept from way back that allows artists and fans to experience music in unique and innovative ways, as our featured bands and solo artists use Apple devices as instruments. As we consume more and more digital content, we also want to showcase the beauty of the live human experience of coming together to enjoy music,” according to Joey Alvarez, PMC’s Director for Marketing and Product Management, explaining the motivation behind Sync Sessions.
The Sync Sessions series unfolded over five consecutive Saturdays, from August 26 to September 23, at various locations across Metro Manila. Each event boasted an impressive lineup of artists and bands. The opening performance took place at Eastwood and featured the likes of Bullet Dumas, along with Sync Sessions veterans Ang Bandang Shirley, Sandwich, and Jess Connelly, who collaborated with LustBass.
Jakarta-raised Filipino hip-hop artist Young Cocoa took the stage, followed by Filipino indie folk band Munimuni at SM Makati. The third leg featured R&B singer Jason Dhakal and the celebrated Autotelic at UP Town Center.
The following Saturday, Zild delivered an electrifying electronic set at Robinsons Magnolia, sharing the stage with Filipino alternative rock band SOS and singer-songwriter Lesha, known for her music production on Apple devices.
The grand finale of Sync Sessions featured a powerhouse lineup including soulful pop duo Leanne & Naara, OPM icon Ebe Dancel, “Muli” crooner Ace Banzuelo, and indie pop rock band This Band, performing at Festival Mall in Alabang.
These events were expertly hosted by social media personalities Vince Velasco, Samm Alvero, and Aryn Cristobal. Lucky audience members had the chance to take home exclusive Sync Sessions merchandise, PMC gift certificates, and exciting prizes from PMC partners Amazing Thing, Belkin, JBL, PanzerGlass, Sony, and SoundCore by Anker.
Sync Sessions represents an initiative that places human talent at the forefront of technological advancement. Beyond the stage, it seeks to empower Filipinos to harness the full potential of Apple technology for creating unique music and content.
“Many of the artists we invited have long been using Apple devices for their music. PMC hopes to inspire a new generation of musicians and content creators alike to keep discovering their voice and express it through their chosen medium or channel—be it music, film, or even vlog. We hope to provide the tools that make individuals stand out and reach their dreams,” Alvarez added.
As PMC embarks on its year-long celebration of its 30th anniversary under the theme “30 Years of Transforming Experiences Through Lifestyle Innovations,” it also eagerly anticipates the launch of the highly awaited iPhone 15. PMC continues to be a driving force in promoting innovation and the arts, bringing technology and creativity together to enhance the Filipino experience.
