Singapore-based eSports ecosystem and technology startup Nexplay announced the appointment of early investor Miguel Bernas as President and Co-Founder.
With his appointment, Bernas will take on a more active senior leadership role to lead the strategy and corporate governance of the Filipino startup, as well as to spearhead the fundraising of the company as they move towards the Series A investment round.
A veteran executive and business leader, Bernas brings more than twenty-five (25) years of global media industry experience with his previous stints with some of the world’s best-known media brands such as television networks MTV, CNBC, Singapore’s Mediacorp, and digital media pioneer Yahoo! He also led the global and regional marketing teams Nokia, Singtel, and PayPal.
Currently based in Singapore, Bernas is a veteran executive in both traditional and digital media. His work in driving revenue, building brands, and growing audiences has earned him a number of industry accolades in Lion City.
“Miguel has been part of our team, backing us when all we had was a prototype and being one of our earliest investors. To have him step up into a more active role and bring his global media experience to Nexplay will be a huge benefit to the team,” according to Gabriel Benito, CEO and Founder of Nexplay.
Already operationally profitable with revenues growing at 150% year-on-year, the exciting gaming tech startup is looking to bolster its eSports ecosystem and enhance its professional eSports teams and content creator offerings to both brands and advertisers.
“The games industry in the region and in the Philippines is at an inflection point. Aside from further expanding our esports ecosystem, we also plan to venture into the high-growth area of Web3.0, NFTs and blockchain gaming. In the same way that games leaped from arcades to the home, from desktop devices to mobile handsets and from offline to online, blockchain technology will be the next revolution in gaming,” said Bernas.
Headquartered in Singapore, Nexplay’s eSports teams Nexplay Evos have won multiple tournaments and is currently on top of their ranks in the region. Nexplay’s network of creators has a cumulative follower base of more than 200 million.
