Team Mozilla Philippines traveled some 170 kilometers today from the National Capital Region (NCR) down south to Lipa City in the province of Batangas to participate in the very first Lipa City Colleges (LCC) IT Convention organized by the Phil-IT.org. In attendance during the event were some 600 students from different colleges and universities all around Lipa City.
The day started at around 0530H (for me, at least) as I will have to fetch fellow ReMo’s (Mozilla Reps) and Student Reps at the designated Pick-up Points (there were 03 for today: Shaw Blvd., Southwoods Exit, and Calamba-Turbina Exit) using what we called as the “Mozilla Van“.
The team for today’s event was composed of fellow ReMo’s Eusebio “Jun” Barrun, Joell Lapitan, Kemuel Domanog, and Faye Tandog; assisting the team are our ever reliable Student Reps from the CSJL Calamba: Kenneth Sungcaya, Ryan Ermita, and Jyra Bulan. We reached our destination just before 0800H, in time for the booth setup. The Mozilla Booth was an instant hit among the other organization and companies having their own stalls at the venue, as well.
Other organization/companies participating in the convention are Wikimedia Philippines, Mustard Seed (SAP vendor), Ideaspace (PLDT), and Microsoft Philippines.
The team was given 02 talk slots: 01 during the morning plenary and another 01 for the breakout session after lunch. For the morning plenary, Jun and I made something new — a tandem presentation (first time we did such). Using just a single slide deck, both Jun and I were on stage at the same time. Jun discussed all things about Mozilla (history, organization, and local efforts), while for my part was the technical ones: browser capabilities including Tilt 3D, and Firefox OS.
During the breakout sessions, Jun and Joell did a presentation about Dev Tools from Mozilla and it was attended by a good number of participants.
And the line at the Mozilla Booth seems not to end until around 4PM …
The event came to a close at around 1700H and the team headed back to Manila calling it an awesome day.
