Riot Games held a party at The Platform, Newport World Resorts in Pasay City last 24 February 2023 to celebrate their reacquisition of the publishing rights of the massively popular online game, League of Legends. With an estimated 180 million players worldwide, League of Legends is the most popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game. During the League of Legends Worlds Championship 2022, the game became the center of the most-watched esports event in history.
The League of Legends Summoner’s Rave event marked a significant milestone as the game transitions to servers supported by Riot Games. This means that Filipino players can now participate in cross-franchise campaigns and in-game events that were previously available only in other regions. They will also have access to better player support and other resources, a new ranked season, and a new in-game tournament mode. Additionally, Riot Games plans to organize more hyperlocal moments and offline events to support the local gaming community.
“The migration of League of Legends back to Riot Games took a lot of Rioters to accomplish. It took people from the local team here in the Philippines, the central team in Los Angeles, and also from our Asia-Pacific hub in Singapore,” according to Joel Guzman, Country Manager of Riot Games Philippines.
The return of League of Legends to Riot Games is part of an initiative to improve the gaming experience for Filipino players by reducing delays to game updates and increasing engagement with the local League community. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Riot Games organized the colorful Summoner’s Rave event, featuring live DJ sets, cosplayers, a PC battle room, special messages from the Riot Games team, and the awarding of in-game ranking and other prizes.
Hosted by esports commentators Autolose and Osiris, the event opened with a live DJ set from Hannah Ichiko, who cosplayed as the skin DJ Sona. Country Manager Joel Guzman delivered remarks before the Riot Games team was awarded two batches of ranking accolades. Brand Manager Kimi Salazar then gave a message before the awarding of a Secretlab gaming chair. The event concluded with a DJ set by DJ Bandit, who cosplayed the character True Damage Yasuo.
Cosplayers Myrtle Sarrosa, Charess, Aryanna Epperson, Prince De Guzman Transformations, and many more attended the event and added to the festive atmosphere.
Riot Games is looking forward to bringing a new and improved League gaming experience to Filipino players. The developer invites everyone to download the game here and join millions of players worldwide enjoying the world’s #1 MOBA with Riot Games.
