Lalamove Philippines has stepped up its security protocols to combat account fraud and maintain customer trust, introducing a facial recognition system for driver verification. Amid concerns about accounts being sold or shared, the popular on-demand delivery platform is working closely with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to ensure safer, more reliable deliveries across the country.

Facial Recognition for Driver Verification

In a move aimed at bolstering its anti-fraud measures, Lalamove has added facial recognition to its Driver App. This feature requires partner drivers to verify their identity through a facial scan before they can access the app and accept bookings, ensuring that only legitimate, authorized drivers are handling deliveries. The facial recognition system is complemented by other monitoring tools, including manual reviews and data trend analysis, to detect and prevent potential misuse.

Drivers whose information does not match are added to a watchlist and subject to further investigation, with any violators facing a permanent ban under Lalamove’s strict one-hit policy.

Firm Stance on Fraud Prevention

The rollout of this facial recognition feature underscores Lalamove’s zero-tolerance policy against fraudulent practices like selling or sharing driver accounts. “Through our facial recognition feature, we can ensure that only authorized and verified partner drivers have access to the platform, ensuring a fair environment for all consumers. This initiative, with the support of DICT, reflects our zero-tolerance stance on fraudulent activities and our commitment to protecting both partner drivers and users,” according to Djon Nacario, Managing Director of Lalamove Philippines. He added that the initiative aligns with the Data Privacy Act of 2012, safeguarding drivers’ personal information while building confidence among users.

This security enhancement, backed by the DICT, reaffirms Lalamove’s commitment to fighting fraud and prioritizing user safety.

Safety Reminders for the Holiday Season

As the holiday season approaches, Lalamove is advising customers to double-check driver details—including name, photo, plate number, and vehicle type — before releasing any items for delivery. If any details do not match, customers are encouraged to report the issue immediately through the app’s Live Chat and reassign their order to another driver using the “Find a New Driver” option.

“We deeply appreciate the trust and patience of our customers, especially the small businesses that rely on us daily. Our commitment remains strong and true — to providing a safe, reliable, and secure service to support livelihoods and keep deliveries running smoothly for the communities we serve,” Nacario added.
