The Insular Life (InLife) Makati Building has been awarded the WELL Health-Safety Rating by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). This prestigious designation signifies InLife’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of its employees, tenants, guests, and all stakeholders who occupy the building.

The WELL Health-Safety Rating is a third-party verified rating system that utilizes a data-driven approach to evaluate a building’s operational policies, maintenance protocols, stakeholder engagement strategies, and emergency preparedness plans. It is worth noting that the rating focuses on creating a healthy and safe environment specifically tailored to the post-COVID-19 landscape.

InLife’s Makati Building achieved WELL Health-Safety certification by demonstrating exceptional performance in several key areas, including:

  • Cleaning and Sanitization Procedures: The building implements rigorous cleaning and disinfection protocols to minimize the spread of germs and viruses.
  • Emergency Preparedness Programs: Comprehensive emergency preparedness programs are in place to ensure a swift and effective response to any unforeseen events.
  • Health Service Resources: Accessibility to health services and resources is readily available for building occupants.
  • Air and Water Quality Management: The building prioritizes optimal air and water quality through effective management practices.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communication: InLife fosters open communication and active engagement with all stakeholders regarding health and safety initiatives.
  • Innovation: The building incorporates innovative solutions to continuously enhance the health and safety of its occupants.

Hector A. Caunan, InLife’s Senior Vice President and Real Property Division Head, emphasized the strategic selection of the Makati Building as the pilot for the WELL Health-Safety Rating program. This decision builds upon the building’s existing recognition, having received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification in 2018.

“The WELL Health-Safety Rating, together with the LEED Gold Certification, serves as a testament to InLife’s dedication to upholding the highest standards in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our employees, tenants, and visitors. Our unwavering focus on people’s health, safety, and environmental responsibility is a cornerstone of our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Program,” said Caunan.

The InLife Makati Building, constructed in 1962, occupies a prime location in the heart of Makati’s Central Business District. This iconic 14-story structure boasts 22,528 square meters of premium leasable space, featuring a grand ballroom with a 300-person seating capacity. The building incorporates cutting-edge systems and equipment, including the use of non-ozone-depleting air conditioning substances, energy-efficient lighting fixtures, lifts, and escalators. In addition, the building demonstrates a commitment to environmental sustainability through rainwater harvesting for custodial purposes and a remarkable 90 percent construction waste recycling rate.
