Google has unveiled a new addition to its educational offerings: the Google Career Certificate in Cybersecurity. Designed in collaboration with Google experts and approved by employers, this certificate aims to empower individuals to qualify for entry-level positions like cybersecurity analyst and information security analyst. It forms part of the existing Google Career Certificate program in the Philippines, which now includes advanced certificates in data analytics, business intelligence, and cybersecurity.

In partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Google is working closely to provide Cybersecurity Career Certificate scholarships to ICT practitioners in the government. Moreover, this certificate is accessible to anyone aged 18 and above, requiring no prior degree or experience. Individuals can complete the program online within six months through part-time study.

“Creating more pathways for Filipinos to acquire the right digital skills and to competitively enter the cybersecurity field is essential. Google is deeply committed to working closely with our local partners across the public and private sectors to help develop the next generation of cybersecurity workforce and experts in the country,” according to Bernadette Nacario, Country Director, Google Philippines.

The need for cybersecurity professionals has become increasingly urgent, with a nearly 40% rise in global cyber attacks over the past year. This surge in threats poses significant risks to critical infrastructure such as governments, hospitals, electrical grids, schools, and businesses. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of skilled workers in this field, projected to reach 3.5 million by 2025.

Google’s Cybersecurity Certificate equips learners with the necessary skills for entry-level positions. Participants will receive training in identifying common cyber risks, threats, and vulnerabilities, as well as strategies for mitigating them through network, device, people, and data protection measures. The program offers practical experience in utilizing Python, Linux, and various security programs, including Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools. Additionally, it prepares individuals for the industry-leading CompTIA Security+ exam, enabling them to earn a dual credential upon successful completion of both the certificate and the exam.

“The Cybersecurity Google Career Certificate will help in the upskilling of the Filipino workforce to be globally competitive. This will also equip them with the skills needed to have resilience against cyber attacks and to build a safer and more secure online world. The DICT thanks Google for this generous effort in helping the Philippines in its digital transformation journey and looks forward to more opportunities for cooperation,” said DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy.
