In the wake of a devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake that shook Taiwan on Wednesday morning, Globe has stepped in to offer vital support to Filipinos in the affected area. The telecommunications company has announced free connectivity services, including roaming calls, texts, and data, aimed at aiding individuals in reaching out to loved ones or seeking emergency assistance.
Both postpaid and prepaid customers of Globe, as well as TM users utilizing roaming services in Taiwan, will benefit from this initiative. They will receive 15 minutes of free incoming and outgoing calls, along with 15 texts to all networks, and 1GB of data (whichever service is currently available) for a period of 7 days, all at no additional charge.
The process to avail of these complimentary roaming services is straightforward. Globe and TM customers only need to connect to Globe’s roaming partners in Taiwan, namely Taiwan Mobile and Chunghwa Telecom. No registration is required, as the offer will be automatically activated for Globe users, with a confirmation message sent to notify them of its availability.
“Tens and thousands of Filipinos work and live in Taiwan, with thousands more going on a visit annually. We hope that through this immediate connectivity support, we can help our customers there contact their loved ones and cope in the aftermath of this temblor,” according to Paula Rivera-Castillo, Head of Globe International Business.
Instructions for utilizing the free roaming services have been provided by Globe, ensuring that customers can make calls, send texts, and utilize data effectively. For further details on Globe’s Roaming services, individuals are encouraged to visit www.globe.com.ph/international/roaming. In addition, precautions have been advised, such as turning on mobile data and data roaming only after receiving the activation message, particularly for postpaid customers.
The earthquake, which struck 18 kilometers off Taiwan’s Hualien City early Wednesday morning, is reported to be the strongest in 25 years. It caused significant damage to buildings, resulting in people being trapped, as well as triggering landslides and tsunami warnings in Japan and the Philippines. The warning issued by the Philippines’ seismology agency was canceled at 10:33 AM.
