When it comes to pointing devices (read as a computer mouse), I consider myself as one tough cookie to please. For one, these types of devices are something that you will use on a daily basis that is why functionality and performance are key to making me happy with them.
I was recently sent a Logitech Signature M650 Wireless Mouse and will be giving it a spin on my Apple Mac Mini.
Inside the Box
The Logitech Signature M650 Wireless Mouse comes in a plastic blister pack. Generally, I hate items that come in blister packs — I know you can relate how much patience you need in order to open these items. Good thing Logitech made some innovations by including perforated portions and lift tabs along the backside of the packaging for ease of opening. In addition, the entire blister pack comes intact after — making it still useful should you decide to put the mouse on display or storage.
Aside from the mouse unit itself, the packaging comes with Safety, Compliance, and Warranty Information leaflet. One (01) AA (LR6) disposable battery and the Logi Bolt USB receiver dongle are tacked inside the battery compartment at the bottom side of the unit.
First Impressions & Physical Attributes
After taking the Logitech Signature M650 Wireless Mouse unit out of its packaging and removing the safety strip for the battery to be activated, my Apple Mac Mini instantly detects it via Bluetooth.
The device is ergonomically shaped (contoured) with rubber grips attached on both sides and a soft thumb area for a firmer hold. Weighing just 101.2 grams, the Logitech Signature M650 Wireless Mouse fits comfortably with my small hand (can also fit up to a medium-sized one; the M650 L model is the one designed for those with large hands).
This mouse unit has the standard two-button configuration with a Logitech SmartWheel scroll wheel in between. The Logitech SmartWheel provides line-by-line precision when one needs to focus on the details plus it gives you the ability to scroll super fast through lengthy pages with the flick of your finger.
One noticeable feature of the Logitech Signature M650 Wireless Mouse: it’s so quiet! This particular model comes with Logitech’s exclusive SilentTouch technology that reduces 90% of click noise.
In addition, this pointing device has two (02) side buttons that you may easily customize with the Logitech Options+ app that is for Windows and MacOS. Set these side buttons for your favorite shortcuts like back and forward, copy and paste functions, navigating between browser tabs, and many more — talking about working smart, not hard. These buttons can also be customized with predefined settings for popular apps like Microsoft Office suites and Adobe software.
Performance
The ease of setting up the Logitech Signature M650 Wireless Mouse via Bluetooth connectivity is already a big plus point for me. Introduced only in September of 2021, Logi Bolt is a cutting-edge wireless protocol that is engineered to meet the rising needs of enterprise security. It is a combination of Bluetooth Low Energy wireless technology Security Mode 1 and Security Level 4 with additional Logitech security features that are designed to reduce vulnerability when devices are paired to a Logi Bolt USB receiver.
The plug-and-play features of this device make me even happier as I won’t need to spend more time configuring it — I just started using it right away.
Since I am not a “gamer” (I may have to ask my son to try this device one of these days), I should say that as a work-from-home warrior who spends most of the time in front of the computer, the Logitech Signature M650 Wireless Mouse exceeds my expectation when it comes to responsiveness and ease-of-use, especially that I am not using a Windows machine.
Battery Life
With the included AA (LR6) disposable battery, the Logitech Signature M650 Wireless Mouse can operate worry-free for up to two (02) years according to its documentation. I had been using this device for a couple of days already, and the battery indicator on my Mac Mini still says that the battery is still at 100%.
Availability & Pricing
The Logitech Signature M650 Wireless Mouse is available in Rose, Graphite, and Off-White colors (the one that I have is the Graphite-colored model) and currently retails at PHP1,690. You may get this device from the Logitech Flagship Store in Lazada, Logitech Official Store in Shopee, and other partner retail stores all over the Philippines.
