Hard work and perseverance have defined the journey of Sherinata Said, a 22-year-old graduate of Western Mindanao State University. With a degree in Computer Science, she has successfully balanced her studies while working as a service crew member at McDonald’s Zamboanga, proving that determination can open doors to success.

Born and raised in a close-knit family, Sherinata is the fifth among eight siblings. Her father works as a jeepney dispatcher, while her mother is a housewife. Among her siblings, only she and another have completed college. Inspired by an older sibling who serves as a manager at McDonald’s, Sherinata decided to join the company in her third year of college to help support her education and ease her family’s financial burden.

For two years, she dedicated herself to working at McDonald’s while studying, taking on challenging late-night shifts from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Despite the demanding schedule, Sherinata remained steadfast in both her academics and her job. Her experience at McDonald’s not only provided financial support but also shaped her confidence and interpersonal skills.

“At first, the work was really challenging. But as time went on, I gradually learned how to interact properly. Like smiling and engaging with customers appropriately. For example, when I’m assigned to the front counter, if a customer asks me something, I no longer stutter. I can speak more directly while maintaining eye contact. Before, I really couldn’t do that. I used to stutter when talking to customers. But over time, I got the hang of it — how to speak properly and look people in the eye,” she said.

Beyond customer service, Sherinata credits McDonald’s for instilling discipline, professionalism, and time management — skills that will serve her well in her future career. She also highlights how McDonald’s Zamboanga values employee feedback, creating an environment where workers feel heard and respected.

A point of pride for Sherinata is McDonald’s commitment to serving Halal food in Zamboanga, ensuring inclusivity for the local community. As she looks to the future, she remains open to growing within the company, potentially taking on a managerial role like her sibling.
