The Philippine eCommerce industry is poised for continued expansion in 2025, with platform delivery emerging as a key growth driver. According to global data and business intelligence provider Statista, the country’s platform delivery sector is projected to generate approximately US$1.28 billion in revenue, reflecting its increasing importance in the digital economy.

Online food and grocery delivery service foodpanda Philippines highlighted this trend, emphasizing the critical role of convenience, innovation, and sustainability in shaping consumer behavior.

Consumer Demand Fuels Platform Delivery Growth

The increasing demand for fast and efficient delivery services has propelled the growth of the platform delivery market. foodpanda Philippines reported that fast food remained the most popular category for three consecutive years, with burgers leading as the top-ordered item. Meanwhile, its grocery arm, pandamart, saw high demand for bread and soft drinks.

Peak ordering times occurred at lunch (11:00 AM) and dinner (6:00 PM), with Saturdays being the busiest day.

“We have seen firsthand the growing demand for convenience and sustainability among consumers. So it is vital that we continue to innovate and adapt, ensuring we meet our stakeholders’ needs as we achieve growth,” according to foodpanda Philippines Managing Director Daniel Jaramillo.

On the payment front, cash remained the most preferred option, accounting for 51% of transactions, while digital payments made up 49%. The near-equal split highlights a growing shift toward online payment adoption.

Shifting Consumer Behavior & Spending Patterns

In 2025, Filipino consumers are expected to shift toward more strategic spending, with impulse buying on the decline. A report from Euromonitor International found that only 18% of consumers made frequent unplanned purchases in 2024, signaling a more deliberate approach to spending.

To meet these changing preferences, foodpanda continues to enhance affordability and convenience. The company has introduced budget-friendly offerings, including “meal for one” options for solo diners, pandapro subscriptions for reduced delivery fees, and ongoing promotions with partner brands.

foodpanda’s Sustainability Initiatives

As sustainability becomes a central focus in eCommerce, foodpanda is advancing its efforts to support a circular economy. The company’s “Let’s Do Our Pau-rt” (LDOP) program aims to combat food waste by redistributing surplus food to underserved communities.

Through its collaboration with Scholars of Sustenance Philippines (SOS PH), a global food rescue organization, foodpanda helps recover surplus food items and turns them into nutritious meals for redistribution to local communities.

With technological advancements, shifting consumer habits, and sustainability efforts shaping the digital landscape, foodpanda Philippines underscores the need for businesses to embrace innovation.
