In a departure from his usual roles, actor Donny Pangilinan steps into the world of esports in the film “GG,” portraying the character Seth — a reserved gamer navigating personal obstacles while playing for a fledgling esports team.
Directed by Prime Cruz, “GG” (short for “Good Game”) is a groundbreaking production by Mediaworks, Cignal Entertainment, and Create Cinema, distributed by ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema. The film proudly features Acer and Predator gaming products as its official PC partners.
“It really made me respect more professional gamers and how much hard work they put into it. It’s really a real profession; it shouldn’t be taken lightly,” said Donny, who is an Acer Philippines brand ambassador.
Breaking new ground, “GG” is hailed as the Philippines’ first feature-length movie that immerses audiences in the competitive realm of professional esports.
Adding a unique touch to the film, “GG” becomes a family affair for Donny Pangilinan as he shares the screen with his mother, Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan. Notably, this marks the first onscreen collaboration between mother and son. The family connection extends further as Donny’s father, Anthony Pangilinan, serves as the owner of Mediaworks, and his sister, Hannah, plays a crucial role as co-writer and co-producer.
The star-studded cast of “GG” includes Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan, Boots Anson-Roa, Baron Geisler, Gold Aceron, Igi Boy Flores, Kaleb Ong, Johannes Risler, and Icebox. Additionally, special appearances by Anthony Pangilinan, Jake Ejercito, Kim Atienza, Bigboy Cheng, Jake San Diego, Nicole Borromeo, and John Arcilla contribute to the film’s allure.
