Earlier today, I was part of the privileged few to see Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness first on Philippine soil (and perhaps on this side of the globe commercially, as the film will open on May 6th in the United States) and it was on IMAX 3D at SM Megamall. We were told that it was the first time since March 2020 (when the COVID-19 lockdowns started in the Philippines) that the IMAX cinema at this mall began operating again.
Back to the film. Here are my personal takes on the film:
I am not a big fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but of all their characters I find Doctor Stephen Strange quite intriguing. Non-geeky MCU fans may find the whole multiverse thing confusing both as a scientific term and something that is mentioned over and over in many Marvel Studios films. Just believe that the multiverse exists and that yourself has your own version in each of those planes.
Personally, I find film director Sam Raimi doing an awesome job in bringing out the best from Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff/The Scarlet Witch), and Xochitl Gomez (America Chavez) and making this film better than the previous one.
The visual effects used in this movie are more than awesome (fantastic)! The musical scoring is superb.
TIP #1: Make sure that you wait until the last line of the end credits is shown on the screen. You’re welcome.
TIP #2: Unload (LOL) before going inside the cinema. The film’s TRT is just a little over 120 minutes. Taking a bladder break during the screening may mean you will miss some of the most exciting parts of the movie.
I’m giving this film a 9 out of 10 ratings.
Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness opens in cinemas all over the Philippines starting tomorrow, 04 May 2022. Thank you our friends at Disney Studios and Strategic Works for inviting me to be part of this awesome advance screening! Until next time.
UPDATE: I watched the same film at a regular cinema (non-3D), and I highly recommend that you go and watch Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on IMAX 3D. The aspect ratio used in non-3D cinemas does not give justice to the cinematography of the film.
