Due to the general public’s clamor for better connectivity, a number of overpriced, unauthorized DITO SIM cards, and DITO-branded modems and WiFi devices have been seen to proliferate online on Facebook Marketplace, Lazada, and Shopee since their commercial launch last 08 March 2021.

“We do understand the desire of the Filipino public to finally experience fast, affordable, and quality connectivity through DITO. However, we wish to advise everyone to please purchase DITO sim cards only from our partners, resellers, our DITO stores, and official online partner stores to avoid any issues,” according to Atty. Adel Tamano, Chief Administrative Officer of DITO Telecommunity in a statement advising the public to purchase only from DITO authorized partners and resellers.

Atty. Tamano reiterated that the list of authorized partners and resellers is available via their website www.dito.ph and that DITO sim cards are available via the official Lazada and Shopee portals.

“Furthermore, we wish to inform everyone that there are unscrupulous individuals selling DITO so-called vanity or special numbers at exorbitant prices. Please be reminded that all DITO sim cards no matter the mobile number are priced the same and we at DITO do not condone this practice,” added Atty. Tamano and promised that DITO will make available true vanity number SIM cards in the near future.

Atty. Tamano also further warned the public from purchasing DITO-branded modems and WIFI devices with free SIM cards which have been observed to be sold in various online channels.

“It has come to our attention that there are so-called DITO-branded modems that are being sold online. Let me take this opportunity to assure the public that the unauthorized use of the DITO branding in any form shall result in the possibility of prosecution for intellectual property infringement. There are no official DITO modems or pocket WIFI devices that have been launched at this time. DITO cannot and will not guarantee the performance and service should our SIM cards be used in these unauthorized devices in the market today,” Atty. Tamano explained.

The country’s latest telecom player also said that they continue to test compatible devices and will add to the list those that will pass their internal testing.
