Converge ICT Solutions Inc. has selected Infinera to supply key technology for its subsea and terrestrial network expansion. The move aims to enhance Converge’s capacity to meet rising connectivity demands across the Asia-Pacific region.
Infinera’s 1.2 Terabit (T) ICE7 optical engine, integrated into its GX Series Compact Modular Platform, will serve as the submarine line terminal equipment (SLTE) for the fiber pairs that Converge acquired through an Indefeasible Right of Use (IRU) on the Bifrost Cable System. The Bifrost Cable System, a 15,000-kilometer transpacific cable, connects the West Coast of North America with the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore, and includes a branch to Davao, Philippines. Developed by Keppel, Meta, and Telin, this system enhances regional connectivity and data flow.
Converge’s participation in the Bifrost project, particularly as the landing party for the Davao branch, is a strategic step toward solidifying its presence in the global connectivity space. The Davao branch landing station will be crucial in boosting internet infrastructure in southern Mindanao, where Converge operates.
In addition, Converge will use Infinera’s cutting-edge technology to modernize its nationwide terrestrial network. This upgrade will optimize Converge’s vast fiber network, which already covers more than 707,000 kilometers and passes 16 million homes, making it the largest fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network in the country.
“We are excited to leverage the latest generation of Infinera’s technology for our terrestrial and subsea cable assets. Infinera provides the most advanced subsea networking solution with industry-leading capabilities including advanced power management capabilities. Leveraging Infinera’s innovative solution, Converge will be able to effectively scale to meet rapidly growing bandwidth demands across the Philippines and the entire Asia-Pacific Region,” according to Dennis Anthony Uy, CEO and Co-Founder of Converge.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone for Converge as it continues to bolster its network infrastructure to support the growing demand for faster and more reliable internet services throughout the region.
“By selecting Infinera’s ICE7 as the SLTE for the fiber pairs utilized by Converge in the Bifrost Cable System and to modernize its terrestrial backbone, Converge will benefit from the industry’s latest technology, enabling them to provide their customers with access to cost-effective, high-performance, and high-capacity services. We are pleased to have been selected for the company’s growth and expansion, which underscores the value of Infinera’s innovative optical engine solutions and expertise in deploying critical networks globally,” said David Heard, CEO at Infinera.
