Converge ICT Solutions Inc. has achieved a significant milestone in its international connectivity initiatives with the successful landfall of the South-East Asia Hainan-Hong Kong Express Cable System (SEA-H2X) in Bauang, La Union. This development is expected to enhance the data capacity and connectivity across Southeast Asia and China, laying the groundwork for a more robust digital infrastructure in the region.
The SEA-H2X is a high-capacity fiber-optic submarine cable system designed to meet the growing demands for telecommunications and data traffic across Southeast Asia. With the cable’s landfall in the Philippines, Converge is positioning itself as a key player in expanding the country’s international data capacity and improving its resiliency in handling global data flows.
Dennis Anthony Uy, CEO and Co-Founder of Converge ICT Solutions, emphasized the long-term importance of this investment. “Building up the Converge international cabling capacity has always been a long-term investment and today, we see a major development on that front. As early as now, we’re preparing for the region’s capacity needs, as far ahead as 10-15 years down the road,” Uy said.
The SEA-H2X cable system spans six key landing points across Southeast Asia, including Hong Kong SAR (Tseung Kwan O), China (Lingshui), Malaysia (Kuching), the Philippines (La Union), Singapore (Tuas), and Thailand (Songkhla). This extensive network aims to increase international capacity and ensure the stability of undersea fiber links, which are crucial for data flow within the Asia Pacific region.
With a system design capacity of 160 terabits per second (Tbps), the SEA-H2X is set to significantly bolster the Philippines’ international connectivity. The increased capacity is expected to benefit a wide range of industries, particularly those heavily reliant on bandwidth, such as business process outsourcing (BPO), global financial institutions, and multinational companies.
By enhancing the country’s data infrastructure, Converge ICT aims to support the growing demand for high-speed internet and digital services, especially in sectors that require large-scale data transmission. This includes the outsourcing and offshore industries, major contact centers, and other bandwidth-intensive operations.
Aside from Converge, other members of the SEA-H2X consortium include China Mobile International Limited (CMI), China United Network Communications Group Company Limited (CU), and AP SEA H2X Sdn. Bhd. (AP SEA-H2X). The cable system is being constructed by HMN Technologies Ltd., a global leader in undersea telecommunications technology.
Dr. Meng Shusen, Chairman and President of China United Network Communications Group, highlighted the strategic importance of the SEA-H2X system. “As an important large-bandwidth submarine system in the region, SEA-H2X will further upgrade connectivity to Hong Kong SAR, Hainan SEZ and Southeast Asia countries, boosting unimpeded trade, communication, financial integration along the route,” he said.
This development represents a major step forward in Converge’s international expansion efforts and reinforces the Philippines’ role as a critical hub for data traffic within Southeast Asia. The SEA-H2X is poised to improve not only the country’s internet connectivity but also its overall digital economy, contributing to the Philippines’ long-term growth and competitiveness in the global market.
