News circulated over the weekend that publicly listed internet service provider (ISP) Converge ICT Solutions has landed a deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to bring the satellite internet services of Starlink to the Philippines. However, the ISP was quick in saying that the “deal” is still premature.
Trading as CNVRG (Converge Information Communications Technology Solutions Inc.) in the Philippine Stock Exchange, the company issued a statement Monday clarifying that the latest satellite technologies, including that of Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX), are among those new technologies being explored by the Filipino ISP to bring high-speed broadband to far-flung areas in the country.
Converge ICT, however, said that it is still very premature to talk about a possible partnership between them and SpaceX at this stage, as suggested by some news websites and blogs.
Starlink is a satellite internet constellation being constructed by SpaceX providing satellite Internet access. The constellation will consist of thousands of mass-produced small satellites in low Earth orbit, working in combination with ground transceivers.
Converge assures the PSE and its investors that it will promptly make the necessary disclosures should there be any material developments in its exploratory talks with possible partners.
