In a move to bridge the digital divide, Philippine technology services provider Comclark Network and Technology Corp. and data services company Data Lake Inc. have entered into a partnership to expand the reach of Starlink satellite internet in the country. The collaboration aims to provide broadband connectivity even to the most remote islands in the Philippines.
Data Lake, the country’s first and largest authorized reseller and integrator of Starlink low earth orbit (LEO) satellite-based internet, will leverage its expertise to work with Comclark, the parent company of leading fiber internet provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc., to expand satellite internet coverage.
“We have always believed that digital connectivity is a right of everyone so this collaboration with Data Lake brings us closer to realizing that vision to connect every Filipino using world-class broadband technologies,” according to Dennis Anthony Uy, Comclark and Converge CEO.
Uy emphasized that satellite connectivity complements Converge’s fiber broadband services by reaching areas that are difficult to serve with fiber optic cables, such as remote islands and mountainous regions. In addition, satellite internet can provide a reliable backup connection for critical infrastructure.
“We are pleased to partner with Comclark in bringing world-class Starlink satellite internet to more Filipinos across the country,” said Henry Sy, Jr. Data Lake Chairman. Starlink is a satellite internet constellation operated by Starlink Services, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of American aerospace company SpaceX, providing coverage to 80 countries.
Data Lake Vice Chairman and CEO Anthony Almeda expressed the company’s commitment to supporting the Philippine government and private organizations through Data Lake Managed Services and Starlink capabilities. “We hope that this is just the beginning of our technology cooperation with Comclark and the Converge Group,” Almeda said.
Under the agreement, Data Lake will provide managed services utilizing Starlink to enhance the strength and resilience of the Comclark network. The partnership is seen as a significant step towards achieving nationwide digital connectivity and promoting inclusive growth in the Philippines.
