The Department of Trade and Industry-Bureau of Marketing and Development Promotions Office (DTI-BMDPO) is set to host the first-ever COCONUT Philippines Trade Fair (CTF) from 02 to 04 December 2024 at Megatrade Hall 1, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City. This groundbreaking event aims to spotlight the potential of the Philippine coconut industry while creating opportunities for farmers, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and industry stakeholders.

Strengthening the Coconut Industry Through the CFIDP

The trade fair is a key initiative under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP), developed as part of the Coconut Farmers and Industry Trust Fund Act (RA 11524). The CFIDP focuses on uplifting marginalized coconut farmers by promoting income generation, poverty reduction, and inclusive growth. It serves as a roadmap for sustainable development, emphasizing the competitiveness of Philippine coconut products in both local and global markets.

The DTI has been actively supporting this initiative through research, marketing, and market promotion programs. Notably, coconut-based products have gained exposure in flagship events like the National Food Fair and National Trade Fair, enabling farmers to connect with consumers and business partners.

Highlights of the COCONUTPhilippines Trade Fair

The trade fair will feature an array of activities designed to foster innovation and collaboration. These include product launches, market testing, benchmarking, business matching, and direct selling. One of the event’s highlights is the launch of the COCONUT Philippines brand and the introduction of the COCO Mania mascots, symbolizing the vibrant future of the coconut industry.

A total of 90 exhibitors from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will showcase a diverse range of food and non-food coconut-based products for both domestic and international markets.

Inter-Agency Collaboration for Industry Advancement

The CFIDP’s success is driven by the collaboration of 14 government agencies, with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) as the lead. Key contributors include the Department of Agriculture (DA) for farm diversification, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for research and innovation, and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for infrastructure development. Financial support is provided by the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) and Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), while the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and other agencies offer training and technical support.

The COCONUT Philippines Trade Fair is free and open to the public, inviting everyone to explore the innovations driving the Philippine coconut industry. For more updates, follow DTI-BMDPO on social media or contact Director Marievic M. Bonoan at [email protected].
