Last 29 Jan 2010, GlobePH finally delivered my BlackBerry Bold 9700 — thanks to their Loyalty Program. A month prior to the delivery, I was advised that I am entitled to a BlackBerry Bold 9000. I inquired when will the BlackBerry Bold 9700 will be available locally, and was told end of January 2010 (that was in December 2009). Come the first week of January 2010, I was advised that I will be given a BlackBerry Bold 9700 instead. Kewl!
On to the review:
The BlackBerry 9700 was announced last October 2009, and this is RIM’s second handset (next to the Curve 8520) that will sport a touch-sensitive optical trackpad instead of the problematic trackball. A very welcome move from RIM. Compared with the BlackBerry Bold 9000, the Bold 9700’s camera is upgraded to 3.15MP (from just 2.0MP) with Image Stabilization; weight is reduced to just 122g from 133g; the Bold 9700 supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900, HSDPA 850/1900/2100, & HSDPA 1700/2100/900 — up to 3.6Mbps. Like the Bold 9000, Bold 9700 is also WiFi (802.11 b/g, UMA) enabled.
On the downside, internal storage for the Bold 9700 was reduced to just 256MB from Bold 9000’s 1GB. But, the Bold 9700 supports up to 16GB microSD expandable storage, while the Bold 9000 can only accommodate up to 8GB. The screen size got a little bit smaller at 2.44 inches, compared to the Bold 9000’s 2.6 inches.
GlobePH currently sells the BlackBerry Bold 9700 at PHP28,995 as a prepaid phonekit.

Galing naman. =) You got it for free? tama po ba pagkaintindi ko? nung last year lang ako nag enrol ng globe postpaid. siguro matagal tagal pa bago ako makasali sa loyalty program. happy new po sa bagong phone. dream phone ko po ang bb 9700. sabi ko sa sarili ko, bibili ako nyan kapag natapos ko ang master’s ko. wish me luck po. =)
@Ash: I’ve been subscribed to GlobePH under a corporate line since 2008. If you’re plan with them will expire, better ask them what you will get as some sort of “loyalty” reward.
buti ka pa! Yung globe inde tumatawag sakin. Kelangan ata ako tumawag sakanila. 2008 din ako nag start ng postpaid line sa globe. T.T how much ung plan mo nun? like PhpX,XXX?
@Mizuki: I’m on Globe Corporate Plan 2500. Yah, I suggest that you call them and ask for your loyalty reward.
hi guys, just a newbie question.
Regarding my Bold9700 camera, the zooming function used to work okay, now ayaw na gumana ng zoom.
Any one experienced the same issues? I have been trying to fix this sa settings pero walang nangyayari.
TIA.
If you’ve problem with sticky unscrollable blackberry trackball, i would recommend you to http://www.unique-stuff.co.cc/fixing_sticky_blackberry_trackball.html
They have some DIY technique especially the rotating straw technique which i had tried and it works for me. Now have my blackberry trackball working again. No more sticky unscrollable problem.
hey Bob! what is included in the globe’s corporate plan for 2,500K?tnx
I bought tamagotchi v6 handset for my son to maintain them away from computer. It appears adorable to even an adult like me.
Hi! I just got my BB9700. I can’t connect through my cd-r king wireless router. I already tried the phone to other wireless connections and it’s working properly.
How should I configure my router so my BB9700 can connect?
Thanks.
