The rollout of fifth-generation (5G) wireless technology is transforming the digital landscape, ushering in faster speeds, lower latency, and increased reliability. While previous generations, from 2G to 4G, significantly improved network capabilities, the leap to 5G marks a new era in telecommunications. With speeds up to 20 gigabits per second (Gbps) and 100 times better capacity and reliability than 4G, 5G has set a new gold standard for connectivity.

5G networks operate in two forms: Non-Standalone (NSA) and Standalone (SA) systems. NSA networks, typically used in early 5G deployments, rely on existing 4G and LTE infrastructure to provide a more affordable, albeit limited, 5G experience. In contrast, SA networks are built exclusively for 5G, delivering their full potential — higher speeds, lower latency, and greater network capacity.

In the Philippines, DITO Telecommunity stands out as the only telecom provider offering 5G Standalone (SA) technology, ensuring users experience the “true 5G.” DITO’s SA network has already garnered international recognition, winning the “Best Network 5G SA Core Network Construction Award” at the recent 5G Core Summit in the United Arab Emirates.

With over 7,000 cell sites covering more than 830 cities, DITO has achieved 84% network coverage nationwide. The company aims to reach 87% coverage by year-end, enhancing reliability and speed across its network.

“Our strength lies in our standalone 5G technology that brings forth greater capacity, wider coverage, and internet connection speeds that are 20 times faster than 4G. This allows us to deliver minimum average broadband speeds (MABS) of 639 Mbps for 5G for all sites,” according to Retired Major General Rodolfo Santiago, DITO Chief Technology Officer.

DITO Home’s True 5G Wireless Broadband

Capitalizing on its true 5G technology, DITO Home has launched wireless broadband services for both prepaid and postpaid customers, boasting speeds of up to 500 Mbps. This wireless solution offers significant advantages over traditional fiber connections, which are often prone to disruptions like fiber cuts and extended downtimes.

The demand for wireless broadband is growing worldwide, with the market projected to surge from US$30 billion in 2023 to US$224 billion by 2032. In the Asia-Pacific region, the adoption of 5G technology is accelerating.

Wireless broadband is especially appealing for densely populated urban areas where wired installations can be cumbersome. DITO Home’s plug-and-play wireless modems offer a resilient, disaster-proof solution, making it an ideal choice for both urban and rural households.

With DITO Home, Filipino families can now enjoy high-speed, reliable 5G connectivity without the hassle of wires, paving the way for a more connected future.
