Employers must ensure that company leaders are able to engage with their team members virtually for continued productivity leading towards achievement of goals with the Work-From-Home (WFH) setup forming a crucial part of our new normal.
This is according to Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank)’s Chief Human Resource Officer Michelle Rubio, apart from sustained collaboration, there should also be flexible in terms of work hours and opportunities for learning.
During a webinar conducted by the human resource services and technology firm AYP Group entitled “Guards Up for Effective Reopening,” Rubio stressed that the idea of working from home is no longer strictly time-based.
According to the HR boss, what is more important is the output of employees, especially since they might not be able to focus solely on their work as they also have to juggle household chores and other family concerns.
“Teaming and collaboration are very important. The leader must have the ability to engage employees or team members. First and foremost, you need to ask the people if they know what is expected of them and be very clear with that. You also have to provide them with the tools and the support needed,” added by Rubio.
Another important factor would be opportunities for employees to learn and upgrade their skillsets, which can be made possible through online seminars and lectures, certification courses, and other employee engagement activities. “Even if we are working remotely, it’s important that people need to be trained. Learning should never stop,” Rubio said in closing.
