Xiaomi Philippines has made a substantial commitment to disaster recovery by announcing that its Xiaomi Renovation 2024 initiative will focus on rebuilding a heavily damaged school in Bicol following Typhoon Kristine. Originally an annual fan contest, the Xiaomi Renovation program has been transformed this year into a dedicated corporate social responsibility project aimed at helping the community recover from the typhoon’s devastating effects.

Typhoon Kristine hit the Bicol region with winds reaching 130 kilometers per hour, bringing torrential rains and flash floods that inflicted widespread damage to infrastructure, schools, and homes. The storm caused severe disruptions, prompting families to evacuate to temporary shelters, leading to school closures, and impacting essential services due to flooding. Leaving a trail of destruction through numerous towns, the storm highlighted the urgent need for sustainable rebuilding efforts to help restore normalcy for affected communities.

Xiaomi Philippines has partnered with World Vision Philippines, a well-respected NGO specializing in disaster response and community rebuilding, to guide this school restoration project. World Vision’s extensive experience in emergency response and long-term recovery will help ensure the reconstruction process meets the unique needs of the local community. The organization will also work with Xiaomi to evaluate the school’s immediate requirements, from classrooms and essential facilities to a safe, stable infrastructure to better withstand future weather challenges.

Xiaomi has further committed to integrating technology into the restoration efforts by providing the school with AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) devices, aiming to enhance the school’s learning environment through modern technology. The AIoT solutions will streamline day-to-day operations and support the teaching staff, providing students access to new educational resources and tools.

This school rebuilding project aligns with Xiaomi’s larger mission of supporting educational development and community welfare throughout the Philippines. By contributing both technological resources and reconstruction efforts, Xiaomi aims to deliver long-term impact to the Bicol region, where communities are still recovering from Typhoon Kristine’s extensive damage.
