Converge ICT Solutions Inc. activated its complimentary public WiFi at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 last 14 November 2023. As the largest terminal in the NAIA complex catering to approximately 13 million passengers annually, this initiative marks a significant step in Converge’s broader mission under the Free Pure Fiber WiFi project.
The endeavor, conducted in collaboration with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and various airport operators, aims to provide free connectivity across all terminals of selected nine international and domestic airports in the Philippines. The unveiling at NAIA Terminal 3 is the latest milestone in this ambitious project.
“A reliable and secure connection is a requisite to elevate the travel experience of passengers, especially this holiday season when the passenger volume in our airports is peaking. With this connectivity initiative, we hope we can make their journey smoother and more enjoyable as they experience the capabilities of a pure fiber connection,” according to Dennis Anthony Uy, CEO and Co-Founder of Converge.
Each registered user will have the privilege of two (02) hours of daily browsing on the FREE public connectivity. Converge subscribers, especially those with GoFiber accounts, can enjoy an additional treat of six (06) hours of Internet access for up to five (05) devices by entering their GoFiber account number on the login page. Prepaid fiber internet subscribers under Surf2Sawa can also benefit from an extra six (06) hours of FREE WiFi for two devices upon account registration.
Convenience for passengers is a top priority, and to facilitate this, Converge has incorporated a flight status check feature on its login page. Over 120 access points have been activated throughout the four-storey NAIA Terminal 3, ensuring reliable and secure connections in arrival and departure areas, waiting lounges, and retail zones.
“I thank Converge, especially its CEO and Co-Founder Mr. Dennis Anthony Uy for this generous initiative. This project will certainly enhance the travel experience of all domestic and international passengers in the terminal as it will also help advance our tourism and transportation sectors,” said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in a video message during the launch event.
The ceremonial launch of the FREE WiFi zone was attended by Converge CEO Dennis Anthony Uy, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista, Pasay City Mayor Imelda “Emi” Gallardo Calixto-Rubiano, and Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) Officer-in-Charge Bryan Co.
Following the inauguration of the FREE WiFi zone, Converge orchestrated the lighting of a grand 30-foot Christmas tree at one of the departure areas, spreading holiday cheer among passengers and airport personnel. NAIA Terminal 3, with its 24 boarding gates and 140 check-in counters capable of serving 60,000 passengers daily, is a pivotal hub for Converge.
“MIAA is committed to transforming our airports to align with global standards and improve the travel experience of our passengers. With Converge as our connectivity partner, we can ensure that our airport terminals are powered with a world-class infrastructure, establishing a more convenient, comfortable, and digitally connected environment for inbound and outbound travelers,” said MIAA Officer-in-Charge Bryan Co.
Converge plans to extend its FREE WiFi project to cover all four terminals of NAIA, with NAIA Terminal 4 being the first to benefit from this initiative last July 2023. The subsequent months will witness the expansion of free connectivity to other domestic and international gateways, including Francisco Bangoy International Airport, Mactan-Cebu International Airport, Bacolod-Silay Airport, Iloilo International Airport, Laoag International Airport, Pagadian Airport, Tacloban Airport, and Zamboanga International Airport.
