Official Flag of the Republic of the PhilippinesIn celebration of the country’s 108th Independence Day this coming Monday, 12 June 2006. Mabuhay ang Republika ng Pilipinas!

However, on my way to the office this morning, I noticed several establishments in Makati displaying the flag vertical. Nothing is wrong with this, but it’s on how they display the flag vertically: most of them having the red color at the left side — which is wrong.

If my memory serves me right, we were taught during our Citizen’s Military Training in Secondary School (thanks to Lt. Benjie Duran!) that if ever you will be displaying the Philippine Flag vertically, the blue color should be at the left side. Why is this so? The rationale — it is assumed that the flag will be hoisted by someone standing at the right side of the flag pole.

I hope that with this information, everybody will be displaying our country’s flag properly.
